Ukrainian official urges FBI to probe Trump advisors for Russian propaganda after Sumy strike “mistake” comment

A senior Ukrainian lawmaker, Oleksandr Merezhko, has called for an FBI investigation into President Donald Trump’s inner circle following Trump’s characterization of a deadly Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian city of Sumy as a “mistake,” according to The Times.
The controversy arose from Trump’s comments after journalists asked him about the 13 April Russian strike on Sumy’s city center in northeastern Ukraine. The attack, which occurred on Palm Sunday, resulted in 35 deaths, including two children, and over 100 injuries to civilians.
Trump suggested that Russia “made a mistake,” though he offered no further details to support this claim.
Merezhko, who leads Ukraine’s parliamentary committee on foreign policy, told The Times that Trump’s remarks were concerning and warranted an investigation into whether Russian propaganda had infiltrated his team. “It’s like saying that 9/11 was just a ‘mistake’ by Al-Qaeda,” Merezhko said. “This is an alarming statement that not only encourages Putin to continue his atrocities but also indicates that someone in Trump’s circle is promoting Russian narratives.”
On 14 April, Trump posted on Truth Social that the Russo-Ukrainian war is “Biden’s war, not mine.” He claimed the conflict would never have happened under his administration and criticized both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Joe Biden for allowing the "travesty to begin." Trump also suggested that the 2020 election was rigged, which he believed contributed to the war. He emphasized that he is now “working diligently” to end the conflict.
In a press conference with El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, Trump again pointed fingers at Biden and Zelenskyy for the war, stating, "Everybody is to blame" for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. "That’s a war that should’ve never been allowed to start. Biden could have stopped it.
Zelenskyy could have stopped it. And Putin should have never started it. Everybody is to blame," Trump remarked. He further stated, “Millions of people died because of three people: Putin number one, Biden number two, and Zelenskyy. All I can do is try and stop it.”
Meanwhile, Zelenskyy extended an invitation to Trump to visit Ukraine and witness the “suffering” firsthand before making decisions about potential negotiations.
The Russian missile attack on Sumy targeted civilian infrastructure, including Sumy State University buildings and residential homes. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has shared information about the attack with international partners, and Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha has called for a “decisive response” from allies, specifically requesting additional air defense systems and increased pressure on Moscow.
Trump knew something was going wrong with Russia at the end of his term. He's as much to blame because he knew what was gonna happen and didn't do anything! Instead he threw his hands in the air and pushed blame because he was out manouvered with his election!
